After a well-attended Open House on April 16th, The Lodge (a new transitional housing facility on the Kearney campus) is now accepting applications. The first five units are available, providing dormitory-style transitional living for women in coordination with the State of Nebraska Probation, Drug Court and Parole. Renovations will begin soon to provide efficiency apartments at the same location.
Since opening in Kearney on February 1, 2012, Crossroads has served over 2400 men, women and children in Buffalo County by providing more than 139,000 nights of stay for the needy. Completion of the nearly $3 million dollar project will provide transitional housing directly on the Kearney Crossroads Campus, allowing our guests to take the next step in their recovery while their supportive services are still close-by. The renovated building will include 15 units of long term housing in efficiency-style apartments complete with their own kitchen and bathroom, with two of the larger units available to house families. Currently, five dormitory-style beds are available for women, with plans to expand this number to 16 in the future. Individuals coming out of their 4-Phase Recovery program, or those referred by another agency are eligible to apply for the transitional housing program.
Daniel Buller, Executive Director for Crossroads Mission Avenue, is excited to see the project coming to completion. “I heard once that Kearney is a ‘can do’ community, able to overcome great obstacles. The completion of this project and campus proves that statement to be true. We are so proud of the work that has been done by so many caring and ambitious people. We look forward to a joyous celebration of where God has brought the ministry in the last 9 years. Crossroads Mission Avenue in Kearney is a state of the art campus that will be an example to communities around the state and around the country, of how to truly care for the homeless, and offer programs and opportunities that will stop cycles of poverty. Kearney is leaps and bounds ahead of communities around the nation that are facing hardship and crisis because of poverty and the impact of so many homeless in their communities.”
Crossroads Mission Avenue’s mission is to bring glory to God through the helping of people. Homelessness recovery is a long, complicated process for many of our guests, and step by step Crossroads is there to help them in that process.
