Kearney Crossroads Mission Avenue opens Transitional Housing – The Lodge!

After a well-attended Open House on April 16th, The Lodge (a new transitional housing facility on the Kearney campus) is now accepting applications. The first five units are available, providing dormitory-style transitional living for women in coordination with the State of Nebraska Probation, Drug Court and Parole. Renovations will begin soon to provide efficiency apartments at the same location.

Since opening in Kearney on February 1, 2012, Crossroads has served over 2400 men, women and children in Buffalo County by providing more than 139,000 nights of stay for the needy. Completion of the nearly $3 million dollar project will provide transitional housing directly on the Kearney Crossroads Campus, allowing our guests to take the next step in their recovery while their supportive services are still close-by. The renovated building will include 15 units of long term housing in efficiency-style apartments complete with their own kitchen and bathroom, with two of the larger units available to house families. Currently, five dormitory-style beds are available for women, with plans to expand this number to 16 in the future. Individuals coming out of their 4-Phase Recovery program, or those referred by another agency are eligible to apply for the transitional housing program.

Daniel Buller, Executive Director for Crossroads Mission Avenue, is excited to see the project coming to completion. “I heard once that Kearney is a ‘can do’ community, able to overcome great obstacles. The completion of this project and campus proves that statement to be true. We are so proud of the work that has been done by so many caring and ambitious people. We look forward to a joyous celebration of where God has brought the ministry in the last 9 years. Crossroads Mission Avenue in Kearney is a state of the art campus that will be an example to communities around the state and around the country, of how to truly care for the homeless, and offer programs and opportunities that will stop cycles of poverty. Kearney is leaps and bounds ahead of communities around the nation that are facing hardship and crisis because of poverty and the impact of so many homeless in their communities.”

Crossroads Mission Avenue’s mission is to bring glory to God through the helping of people. Homelessness recovery is a long, complicated process for many of our guests, and step by step Crossroads is there to help them in that process.

We are in the process of replacing our old worn out beds at each of our shelters, with new bed frames made of rugged metal to withstand rigorous use, and mattresses with an easy-to-clean waterproof, antibacterial surface. In 2020 alone, Crossroads Mission Avenue provided over 47,000 nights of stay to our needy neighbors in Kearney, Hastings and Grand Island! The new equipment will stand up to the extensive cleaning procedures required here at the shelter and should serve us for many years to come! Our old beds are worn out, and desperately need to be replaced at each location – let us know if you can help! Call Linda at 402-462-6460 if you can help!

2021 Kearney Give Where You Live event blesses Crossroads!

Thank you to the Kearney community who generously donated to Crossroads Mission Avenue through the KGWYL 2021 event! Over $37,000 was raised by Kearney residents who care about their community and their needy neighbors! Those who donated through the Give Day want to make sure that homeless men, women and families in Buffalo County have a safe shelter during these freezing Nebraska nights, and that a hot meal will be provided when it’s needed most! The Kearney community continues to be a gracious and generous supporter of Crossroads Mission Avenue and we are very grateful! Thank you Kearney for helping us help others!
