Hastings Community helps Crossroads replace HVAC units!

December 14, 2023

The Hastings community has generously come alongside Crossroads Mission Avenue to assist in the replacement of our aging HVAC units. With the community’s help, this ongoing project for the Hastings facility has provided several replacement units each year at the 702 W 14th Street location. Rooms with the malfunctioning units require the use of individual space heaters for heat or window air conditioning units for cooling in the summer, which is not a long-term solution. Replacement of the broken units with high-efficiency water source heat pump systems will provide consistent heating and cooling comfort for our guests, better control of energy use for Crossroads, and lower seasonal operating costs.

Fifty-five heating units are located in the facility, which houses up to 112 individuals experiencing homelessness. Crossroads has been investing in this ongoing project to update the 18-year-old system, by working to replace some of these units every year. Several community funders and individual donors have contributed to the project, including BNSF, Spotts Trust, NE Christian Support Ministries, the Clay Center Christian Church, Sutton Community Church, Hastings Community Foundation, Minnie A Schlitt Foundation, K-T Heating and Air Conditioning, and Sunnyside Foundation. Crossroads is most grateful for the community’s help in caring for the homeless and needy in Adams County!

Once replaced, the new console heat pump units, which are designed specifically for commercial applications, will supply both heat and air conditioning to the individual rooms for many years to come. Offering a warm, safe shelter to our guests is meeting a basic need that the homeless are not able to provide for themselves.  Helping people in this way is foundational to our mission and ministry. Thank you for helping us care for our neighbors in Hastings!
