Shelter Director – Grand Island

Crossroads Mission Avenue, Grand Island is seeking applicants for the position of Men’s Homeless Shelter Director. This is an exciting opportunity to help men in the Grand Island Area who are experiencing homelessness. Through Crossroads Mission Avenues’ 4-phase PRP program, the Shelter Director, along with other team members, will be able to offer evangelism and discipleship to help men overcome poverty and homelessness.

Crossroads Mission Avenue is a Christian non-profit ministry and applicants are required to be in full agreement with the Crossroads Mission Avenue Statement of Faith, have a personal walk with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and have a heart of compassion toward those we serve. A background in human services or case management is a plus. Crossroads Mission Avenue would like personal references, professional references, and a pastoral reference.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Agree with the statement of faith and core values, and be able to demonstrate the values to Crossroads Mission Avenue staff and guests
  • Communicate effectively and record information accurately
  • Human Services experience desired, but not required
  • Maintain a high standard of personal morality and accountability, living above reproach in all areas of life
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to diffuse conflict, treat Crossroads’ guests with dignity and respect, maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Work with fellow staff members to develop goals for Crossroads’ four phase transitional living program and program participants, and accomplish these goals in a timely manner
  • Proven computer skills and willingness to become proficient Crossroads Mission Avenue computer software
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Hold a current CPR and First Aid Certification, or willingness to become certified

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Program:

  • Meet with guests enrolled in the program a minimum of one time per week in order to monitor and encourage their progress as follows:                         –     Provide Christ-centered counsel that supports their recovery; Confirm their fulfillment of each program requirement; Refer them to (and) assist them in contacting area agencies and organizations with which Crossroads partners
  • Determine each guest’s length of stay according to their efforts to succeed in the program and their current situation
  • Communicate pertinent information concerning each guest’s welfare, progress, and status of stay to staff. Discuss with and recommend necessary disciplinary actions and rewards for guests to administrative staff
  • Continue developing a program that best accommodates each guest’s needs and abilities, aids their progress toward physical, emotional, and spiritual self-sufficiency, and track their activity and need for supportive services once they have completed the program and have left the Mission
  • Counsel current guest from a Christian perspective, empower them to affect needed change in their lives and encourage them to grow in their relationship with Christ.
  • Be on call in case of emergencies involving guests, and conduct all UAs when needed
  • Perform room checks on a weekly basis
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with local agencies, organizations, and churches that support Crossroads’ work. Be familiar with their services in order to make informed referrals. Attend pertinent networking meetings
  • Log and file program paperwork neatly and properly. Keep guest information secure at all times
  • Keep a current file of information on guest employment opportunities. Use this information to assist guests with resume writing and employment applications, training, and interviews, if not working with employment specialists
  • Assist guests in their search for supportive, healthy living arrangements and time management
  • Assist guests with money management. All guests are to allow Director or Case Manager to securely hold guest’s money and/or bank cards while they are staying at Crossroads Mission Avenue
  • Speak to community groups, agency representatives, and prospective guests, when called upon, on Crossroads behalf, about its mission, services, and general operations

Supervision:  Offer day to day direction and support for GA staff and Case Management Staff

 Hours are 40-45 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Crossroads Mission Avenue offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Part-time Guest Advocate – Hastings

We are currently looking to hire a part time Guest Advocate for our Hastings location!

Help us fulfill a bigger purpose by serving others – come join our team!  This position will work evenings and weekends, 32 hours per week.  Guest Advocate responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:         

  • Securing donations
  • Data entry
  • Become proficient in out database networking and check in/ out guests as needed. 
  • Answer phone and send out detailed messages accordingly.
  • Posses great communication skills and must be a team player.
  • Be flexible with scheduling. This would include possibly working evenings and weekends, 32 hours per week. 
  • Have a compassionate heart for the homeless and be able to follow all rules and policies. 
  • Be teachable and willing to learn all aspects of job.
