We’re so grateful for those who supported Grand Island Crossroads Mission Avenue through the Go Big Give Day event! Almost $2,000 was raised for Crossroads that day, bringing vital services to the homeless and needy in Grand Island! Each gift is helping to provide for the emergency needs of our guests, making sure they have safe shelter and a nutritious meal! But Robert’s story shows that this support goes so much farther than that…

Robert has struggled with alcoholism since he was 15 years old, which led him in and out of homeless shelters all around Nebraska. Plagued by addiction, he is no stranger to homelessness. In fact, Robert has lost count of how many times he’s been to Crossroads Mission Avenue over the last 10 years or so. But each time he returns, he builds on his experience and gets closer to victory over his past. And he continues to make progress! Right now, he’s been at the Mission for over a year, sober and secure in our program and living facility. Robert appreciates the fact that the staff doesn’t only focus on his past, but “just always looks forward. So I do! I love it cause you let me come here…for some reason, God wanted me here.” The nurturing environment he has found at Crossroads makes it truly feel like home for Robert. “When I went to Crossroads everybody was loving and, you know, I felt it!” As Robert continues to make progress in his recovery, he spends his time giving back to the Mission. Most days this summer you can find him outside, making our lawn look wonderful – mowing, trimming, and weeding! Robert has experienced extreme highs and lows, but he has found accountability at Crossroads that has helped bring slow and steady healing! 

Go BIg Give Day support makes a life-changing difference for those in the Grand Island community! It provides the 4-Phase Recovery Program, transitional housing, and personalized case management, which equips guests like Robert for successful living after their time at Crossroads. And most importantly, our guests have the opportunity to hear the transforming message of God’s love, which can bring true change to every life. 

Offering a safe shelter to the needy is meeting a basic need that the homeless are not able to provide for themselves. Thank you Grand Island for helping us help others!
